This blog highlights the key points that I need to raise looking at the current tensions that has been created between India and Australia due to so called "race filled violence in Australia on Indian Fraternity"
I have been staying in Melbourne for past 5 years and completed my Masters degree here and since then have been working as a IT professional in Melbourne.
At first I feel we need to understand, what is racism and why do we raise this term every now and again, Is calling indians as curry racist?, isnt this something to be proud of.
My experience till now here is been extremely welcoming and I feel the recent spate of incidents is more unfortunate than racist, some may be, but there can be some amount of racism in every part of the world. We dont need to go far, I did my graduation from Maharashtra (India) and you can find the difference when you are treated as a outsider in your own country simply because you are not born in that State, this is ridiculous.
After making my point i am not saying that all whats happening is right, but has been blown out of proportions by the some of the news channels simply to gain more TRP at the cost of the future of relationship between two beautiful countries. My parents have been calling me every day as if there is a world war here, Media could not simple understand that portraying such a thing can lead to un-necessary tensions in the mind of parents who have there kids away studying or working in Australia.
I feel the Australian government should also take severe actions on drinking in public places and also use of drugs and the laws should be made to curb this. Binge drinking is a real concern here. When the youngsters are in the influence of alcohol or any drug there is a lot of adrenalin flowing through their body and they feel they can capture the world and then when whoever comes in their way becomes a target and in the recent incidents we have seen it, it is mostly youngsters who are too immature and don't know their responsibilities towards the society and need education and need an open mind.
My heart goes out to all the parents and people who have been affected by the acts of these few foolish and immature idiots and loosers and we hope that enough will be done to protect the security of people in Australia. As the target can be anyone irrespective of the race its just the time that can be bad for anyone.
I sign off from this blog saying to the victorian government and the police to take appropriate actions on the people who created unnecessary violence and hope that Indian Media should show some concern about people living here and don't blow things out of proportion for TRP's
We are all happy here and no need to worry.
A proud curry from the land of noworries
At the end "We dont want revolution we want solution, as we all are the citizens of planet earth and so we have a lot in common"

Yo Sam, I tend to agree with you. I suppose racisim is something which exists in almost all parts of the world (does base on different agendas of course, caste, colour, or religion)and not just Australia. Of course what's happening there needs stern measures but then the problem should be looked at in entirety, which includes such differential treatment that happens within India as you mentioned. Hope the authorities there do enough to stop such untoward incidents in future. U take care. Keep posting.
Hi Sam,
nice article, encapsulated lot of what i feel as well. I do feel we indians are pretty loose with the word 'racism' which is a big charge or label on anyone, community or country. I do feel most of these recent attacks are not racially motivated but are oppurtunistic. Indian media has gone overboard with their coverage, to increase their TRP's-however, the problem does exist. I have visited melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in 2008-everywhere i found people welcoming, warm and generall law abiding-(off course, i stuck to the safer areas)-i mean i would have faced the same problems if i went to another city in india which i was not familiar with. I live in Auckland, NZ (much similar to melbourne)but with a significantly smaller indian student population, havent faced any problems so far....Any wayz, cheerio and keep posting ...Vinod Parameswaran
